Abstract. From spatio-temporal distribution of earthquakes in the Baikal Rift System (BRS) and records of the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) of groundwater at two stations of the Kultuk area, a transition is outlined from the spring-summer seismic pulses of April 30 – June 12 (pulse AJ) and June 17 – August 13 (pulse JA) with a maximum energy class (K=12.9) to earthquakes of early autumn of August 19 – September 25 (pulse AS) with a lower maximum energy class (K=12.5) and September 25 – October (pulse SO, unfinished) with an even lower maximum energy class (K=11.5). Earthquakes of the AJ pulse are detected in the east and west of the BRS, subsequently concentrating and extending in the west. Earthquakes of the JA pulse are detected in the east of the BRS, from where these shift toward the center and extinguish there. Earthquakes of the AS pulse migrate from the west through the center to the east of the BRS and subsequent earthquakes of the SO pulse originate in the east of the BRS. The seismogenic effect of compressional or extensional forces in the BRS crust is determined by coseismic coordinated variations in ORP groundwater. It is revealed that the initiation of the AJ and AS seismic pulses is primarily due to compressional forces of the Sayan-Mongolian sector of the Indo-Asian Convergence (SMSIAC), while JA and SO seismic pulses are triggered by extensional forces of the Japan-Baikal Geodynamic Corridor (JBGC). In 2025, a general seismic-generating state of compression of the earth's crust is determined, characteristic of the middle of the 12-year seismic cycle, which does not imply strong earthquakes (a similar state was determined in 2014–2015), in contrast to the state of extension of the earth's crust, resulted in strong earthquakes (such a state occurred in 2008 and 2020–2024).
